Water Water Everywhere

Most people don’t realize it but every time we eat or drink something it affects our oral health in some way. That’s why we should be more careful about the food choices that we make. You might think that water is the one thing you don’t have to worry about, but that can depend.

Water is important in keeping your body hydrated. It also prevents “dry mouth” by increasing your supply of saliva at any given time. Saliva washes away food debris and neutralizes the acids that can erode your tooth enamel. The thing is that plain old tap water is no longer our only choice, although it may be the best one.

Today you can find an entire section in your local grocery or retail outlet that is devoted solely to bottled water. The main attraction of these waters is that they are so convenient for travel or to take along on social or sports outings. The problem lies in the fact that many of them are lacking in the fluoride content that is so good for our teeth.

You can also find sparkling mineral water, club soda or seltzer in every flavor under the sun. These drinks are all carbonated however, which makes them all acidic as well. Granted, carbonated waters are less so than cola but still, your best bet is to just turn on your tap.
