Little Changes Reduce The Risks

You might find that it’s too hard or that you just don’t want to give up all the foods and drinks that can stain your teeth, but you could make an effort to cut out at least a few. Let’s start with the worst offenders.

Black coffee is at the top of a list of no-no’s if you want to avoid tooth stains, the same goes for black tea. A morning cup of tea or coffee however, is a hard habit to give up but you could lessen the effects by adding some cream to your coffee and by switching to green or herbal tea. No big sacrifice here, right?

Next on the list is, you guessed it, the always popular glass of red wine. It goes great with steak or chocolate, but so does white wine. Ok, if you just can’t give it up at least rinse after drinking the Merlot.

Cola is a double edged sword. Not only can it stain your teeth but the acids erode your tooth enamel and the sugar content contributes to tooth decay. Water or club soda are both better choices but when you do indulge in the occasional cola drink through a straw to avoid direct contact with your teeth.

Remember, anything that stains your tablecloth or your clothes will also stain your teeth. Ask your dentist or hygienist about ways to lessen the staining powers of some of your favorite foods and look into the tooth whitening options offered at Benson Hill Smiles in Renton. WA.
